Day 1. CUZCO
Upon your arrival in Cozco we will meet you at the airport or bus station (depending on your instructions) and transfer your to a charming a centraly located inn in Cuzco. Your Traveller's File (sent to you by FedEx before your arrival in Peru) Provide lots of information on the city, the thingsa to do and see. Free exploration of Cuzco, evening meal is served at your inn.

Day 2. CHILLCA / LLACTAPATA.-
After an early breakfast we pick you up at your inn . We start our trek escorted by native "quechua¨ porters going through semi-arid terrain along the Urubamba river with magnificent views of snow capped mount Veronica. Arriving to camp at Llactapata, an ancient Inca citadel that protected the entry to two valleys.

Day 3. LLACTAPATA / LLULLUCHA.-
After a healthy breakfast we walk past the Inca Hamlet of Huayabamba, later going through and Andean cloud forest to our camp at Llulluchapampa. Before the first high pass..

Day 4. LLULLUCHA / PHUYUPATAMARCA.-
Today the first part of the trek takes us to the Warmiwañuska Pass 13,500 feet. Walking on a remarkably preserved Inca Trail passing ancient archaeological sites covered by dense jungle overgrowth. Camp at Phuyupatamarca (city above the clouds) with a spectacular view of snow covered Andean ranges..

Day 5. PHUYUPATAMARCA / MACHUPICCHU.-
Passing through the Intipuncu, (gates of the sun), we arrive to Machu Picchu the lost City of the Incas. Afternoon train back to Cusco. This tour does not include lodging on day 5.

Notas:

  • Sleeping bag rental : 5$US per day.
  • Insulite mattress provided
    up-grade to a therma-rest mattress : 5$US per day.
  • Advise if vegetarian diet is required.

Throughout this adventure you trek at a leisure pace, camping at more secluded camps, away from the crowds. We run an ecological minded trip by taking out all the garbage including all the human waste. You only carry a small day pack, with your water bottle and camera. Also, on this trek operated in collaboration with Mayuc Expeditions, staff and porters receive a good salary and benefit form decent employment conditions.

The difference between this service and the one offered by other tour companies is that on the first day of the trek we camp near Llactapata, a more secluded camp, while other agencies camp at Huayabamba, a small populated town on the trail. On the second day those agencies trek up hill all day and in the late afternoon, with the last bit of energy, they go over Warmiwanusta pass at 4100 meters (13,500 ft) also known as the Dead Women Pass, then they go down to camp at Pacasmayo, again a crowded place. On that day we trek towards Huayabamba and hike up hill, camping close to the high pass in a more secluded site providing you more time to acclimatize and a more natural and peaceful environment. On the third day, after a good night sleep, we hike up for one hour to the high pass and continue the trek all the way to Phuyupatamarca (City Above the Clouds), the best camp on all the Inca Trail. Early in the morning you will enjoy a magnificent sun rise since you are on the top of the mountain with the clouds below. On the other hand most other tour companies camp at Winay Wayna, much lower where, very often, the mornings are foggy since the site is in the cloud forest.
